The PLAIN DEALER established this scholarship to reward the success of students in our market and to encourage study in various fields that will help promote the vitality of print communications.

Eligibility

Be a graduating senior from any accredited high school in Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Lorain, Medina and Portage County, Lakeside High School in Ashtabula City, or from one of the following Summit County high schools: Barberton, Buchtel, Central-Hower, Copley, Coventry, Cuyahoga Falls, Cuyahoga Valley Christian, East, Ellet, Field, Firestone, Garfield, Green, Hoban, Hudson, Kenmore, Manchester, Mogadore, Nordonia, North, Norton, Our Lady of the Elms, Phoenix, Revere, Springfield, St. Vincent-St. Mary, Stow, Tallmadge, Twinsburg, Walsh Jesuit, Western Reserve Academy, and Woodridge
Plan to enroll in a two or four-year program at an institution of higher education in one of the following courses of study: Business, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Engineering, Pre-Law, Communications, English, Journalism, Psychology, or Sociology with the goal of applying this education toward a career in print journalism

Criteria

Applicants will be selected by an independent committee and judged on (1) academic performance, including co-curricular activities, (2) how one could apply his/her particular course of study (college major) to a career in the newspaper business, and (3) financial need
